Families are losing their lives and homes as violence escalates across the Middle East

Up to 3.2 million people have been displaced in Iran and a further 1 million in Lebanon, as conflict and economic crisis push families into urgent need, struggling to find safety, shelter, food and stability.

ActionAid staff and local partners are delivering life-saving support where it is needed most, prioritising women, children and communities facing displacement and deepening hardship.

Why local and women’s leadership is important

First to respond

When crisis hits, community- and women-led responses save lives. They are often first to respond, backed by community trust and access.

Impact that lasts

Local and women-led movements provide lasting care, building resilience, recovery and protection beyond the emergency.

How we respond to humanitarian crises

Rapid 24-Hour Response

Within 24 hours of a disaster, we assess the scale of the crisis and release emergency funds to deliver life-saving aid without delay.

Accountable Women-Led Action

We support local women-led groups to deliver responses aligned with local laws, customs, and institutions, ensuring transparency through public boards, safe hotlines, and in-person feedback sessions. We work with community committees to track every cent—so aid stays fair, accountable, and community-led.

Building Lasting Resilience

We’re in it for the long haul—strengthening community resilience, driving real system change, and helping communities build back better after crises so they are safer, stronger, and better prepared for future shocks and emergencies.
